An off-duty police officer happened to be driving past the business at 5 a.m. when the theft took place, according to KSAT.com.

The officer heard the two men chained the machine to a truck and yanked it out of the ground. He arrived in time to see them loading the machine into a U-Haul. He followed the men after they nearly struck him. Callers told police they saw a U-Haul matching the description, speeding through neighborhoods with a chain dragging behind. Police later found the truck parked off the side of the road.

With the help of a K9 unit, police found the broken cash machine. While they were able to recover the property, they have not arrested the two suspects.
