fullersA new car wash is replacing the old Bally’s Total Fitness in Calumet City, Illinois. Construction on the site will begin in April and a new Fuller’s Car Wash will open in the fall, according to NWI.com. The car wash was made possible by a vote through city council which lowered the property tax for the business.

“We are very excited about Fuller’s in Calumet City,” Calumet City Economic Development Coordinator Bryan Swanson said. “The ancillary benefits this traffic will have on Aldi, Sports Authority and Home Depot will be great.”

Fuller’s Car Wash President Doug Fuller said he was grateful to the city for tweaking the tax rate to help him afford the site. The city gave Fuller’s Car Wash a class 8 tax assessment. Industrial and commercial properties are usually assessed at 25 percent, NWI.com reports. But Class 8 assessments are 10 percent of the market value for 10 years. They increase to 15 percent in the 11th year and then to 20 percent in the 12th year.

“It never would’ve happened without the Class 8. The margins are too high with property taxes,” Fuller said. “I really appreciate what the city did for me there.”

At its new location, Fuller expects to see between 300 and 400 cars come through the wash each day. The site has plans to hire seven full-time workers and 15 part-time workers. Fuller’s Car Wash operates 16 locations throughout the Chicago area with a total of 200 full-time workers and 60 part-time workers.
