A new car wash in Pennsylvania is the 14th for a car wash chain called Shammy Shine. The newest location opened recently in a city called Palmer Township, according to LehighValleyLive. The automated wash will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily and council members for the local municipality said they think it will make for a nice addition to the area.

Shammy Shine already operates 13 car washes in the Lehigh Valley and western New Jersey, according to its website. A rendering shows amply parking for the new site, which features a long tunnel for the automatic wash. The hours appear to have been approved without much discussion.

A second car wash location, this one in Marlborough, Massachusetts, was not so lucky. According to The MetroWest Daily News, the owners of a proposed car wash called Apex originally asked that their business be a 24/7 operation. But after some push back from local leaders who raised concerns about noise, their hours of operation had to change.

Committee members Matt Elder and Peter Juaire said they would only support the special permit with the restricted hours.

Urban Affairs Committee member Donald Landers spoke in favor of the car wash being open 24 hours a day, saying there will be several buildings that would block noise.

“I’m not so sure the noise from the car wash will echo over it,” he said.

There is some good news for the business. They were given a special permit that will allow them to go back before the committee at a future date to ask for their hours again. At that time, depending on how the business has fared, they might just be open all day, every day.
