We’ll start with a disclaimer: This doesn’t look very scientific, so don’t base your entire pricing strategy off of this. But it’s interesting to see what most people — or at least the hundred or so who responded to this St. Louis Post-Dispatch poll so far — are paying to get their cars washed.

The poll asks, “How much money do you usually spend on a car wash?”

As of around 10 a.m. Tuesday in Missouri, 107 people had responded. About 6 percent said they don’t spend anything. (Maybe they wash at home?) The majority, 65 percent, said $1-10. Another 24 percent said $11-25, and 5 percent said more than $25.

Does that seem about right? We were a bit surprised the luxury market was so low. It would have also been nice to see a breakdown between $1 and $10 — that’s a big difference. It would also be nice to see a larger, random sample to get a truer picture of what people are spending on their car washes.
