Damage from a car wash fire in Texas.

Here’s a few snippets of car wash news we’ve seen this past month.

  • A car wash chain based in Little Rock, Arkansas has increased its reach with the acquisition of some locations in Florida. Zips Car Wash has acquired four car washes in Jacksonville, Florida, which formerly belonged to Carbux Car Cash. Now Zips Car Wash owns a total of 59 car washes a crosses nine states. The expansion is happening rapidly. Of those 59 locations, the company has acquired 44 in this past year alone.

“Our growth in 2016 has surpassed our initial goals for the year and has made us the third largest chain of carwashes,” said Zips Car Wash Chairman and Founder Brett Overman. `“Carbux operates great washes and has an excellent reputation in the community. We are very excited to bring the Zips brand to North Florida.”

  • Funeral arrangements have been made for Edward Dahm, the cofounder of the national Mike’s Carwash chain. The Dahm brother died in a crash with a charter bus at the age of 86. Details about how the crash took place were not yet available pending investigations. Services for the Indiana native took place in Fort Wayne today beginning with a viewing. His burial will be Wednesday.

  • And a heater is being blamed for a car wash fire in Bryan-College Station, Texas. The local paper reports that fire officials believe a small heater connected to a propane tank that was supposed to prevent pipes from freezing likely caused the blaze. The manager of the car wash had performed a check on the heater and the pipes just 30 minutes before the blaze erupted. Just a reminder to keep your heating equipment is good working order.
