Water shortageIn Killeen, Texas, a water main broke on Saturday, prompting the town to warn residents to avoid all non-essential water use, according to the Killeen Daily Herald. That includes watering lawns, filling swimming pools, and washing cars.

In response, The Car Wash Barn closed down two locations in Killeen and Copperas Cove until the restrictions are lifted. On its Facebook page, the car wash wrote:

We’re doing our part: Killeen and Copperas Cove Car Wash Barn locations will be closed today in an effort to help conserve water due to a water main break. Follow the link below for more info and please do what you can to help. We will posting updates as they become available. Thanks!!!

We’ve already shown how water shortages and drought can work to the benefit — at least in terms of marketing — of car wash businesses. The drought in California raised the profile of waterless car washes and offered many ways to get out ahead of common misconceptions about the amount of water car wash businesses actually use.

The Car Wash Barn is handling this community emergency the right way. While it may hurt the bottom line for a few days, it may pay off in the long run.
